Rhinoplasty(Nose Job)

Being located in the center of face, a little change in the shape of the nose can bring about dramatic change in the looks/beauty of the face .Commonly known as a Nose Job, Rhinoplasty is a Plastic surgical Procedure for Correcting, Reconstructing and Enhancing the Form and Function of Nose. Rhinoplasty will benefit you if you are suffering from any of the following:

1. Broad Nose
2. Deviated or Crooked Nose
3. Depressed or Saddle Nose

Procedure is done with incisions inside the nose or in hidden areas so that scars are not visible. The procedure might require insertion of silicone implants sometimes. With a nose that is more aesthetically pleasing, you can soon be a happier and more confident person.

Cosmetic surgery of the nose

Cosmetic surgery of the nose, also called rhinoplasty, can improve the shape, size and general appearance of your nose. The goal is a nose that looks natural and achieves a harmonious balance with your other facial features.

Cosmetic surgeons usually recommend that patients wait until they are at least 14-15 years and possibly older for boys, before undergoing rhinoplasty. Some of the indications that you may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty:

  • Your nose appears too large for face
  • From front, your nose seems too wide
  • The tip is thickened or enlarged
  • Your nostrils are excessively flared
  • In profile, there is a bump on the nasal bridge
  • Previous injury has made your nose asymmetrical
  • Your nasal tip droops or plunges

It is important that you have a clear idea of how you would like your nose to look and at the same time, realize that there are limitations to procedure.

Rhinoplasty performed

Because of individual factors, not everyone will achieve the same results after rhinoplasty. Alterations may be made to increase or decrease the nasal bridge, reduce the size the nose, narrow the nostrils, change the angle between the nose and upper lip or reshape the tip.

Rhinoplasty is performed, under or intra-venous sedation or general anaesthesia. We will recommend the best choice for you. Your surgeon will mark the areas and plan the extent of surgery for you pre-operatively in the upright position.

In rare instances the incisions are placed inside the nose (Closed rhinoplasty). More commonly, a very short incision is made across the columella and then extended within the nostrils on either side (Open rhinoplasty). If the base of the nose is narrowed, reduced small wedges of skin at the base of the nostrils will be removed.

It is important to realize that the amount of time it takes for recovery varies from patient to patient. The first couple of days after surgery you should restrict your activities and sleep with your head elevated for the first 2-3 weeks.

Very slight changes to the structure of your nose — often measured in mm — can make a large difference in how your nose looks

Recovery Process in Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty surgery or, in layman’s term a ‘nose job’ is a cosmetic surgery procedure to either change the shape of the nose or improve its functionality. A cosmetic surgeon reconstructs the form of the nose while restoring and enhances the aesthetics of the nose by performing a rhinoplasty. A Rhinoplasty repairs or resolves difficulties caused by nasal trauma (blunt, penetrating) or birth defects and respiratory impairment. Many times, a revisional rhinoplasty surgery is performed on the nose to correct a previously failed primary surgery to improve its function or for many aesthetic reasons.

Your Nose Surgery Doctors can bring about the below mentioned changes to your nose through rhinoplasty:

  • Size Change
  • Angle Change
  • Straightening the bridge of the nose
  • Narrowing the nasal base or nostrils
  • Reshaping the tip of the nose

If you are getting a rhinoplasty to improve your appearance rather than your health, then you must wait until the nasal bone is completely grown and totally formed. In case of girls, this happens around age 15-16. Boys may still be growing until they’re a bit older in comparison to girls. However, if you are having rhinoplasty surgery to correct a breathing impairment, it can be performed at a younger age too.
