DESIGNATION : Superspeciality In Clinical Hematology
DEGREE : M.B.B.S, M.D. Pathology, DNB Superspeciality In Clinical Hematology
My interest in Hematology arose from my experience in this discipline while still a medical student and the fact that I have always loved working with a cancer patients made it a natural choice. I have also been fascinated with hematology which combines clinical and laboratory skills. I have been working as a DNB Super Speciality resident doctor in Hemato-Oncology and BMT unit of BLK Superspeciality hospital since last 3 years. During my tenure i have treated adult & pediatric patients having different types of benign & malignant hematological disorders including anemia, hemoglobinopathy, coagulation disorders, hemophilia, ITP, TTP, leukemia, lymphoma & multiple myeloma. I have performed bone marrow aspiration, systemic & intrathecal chemotherapy administration for leukemia & lymphoma, PICC line insertion, bone marrow stem cell harvest, peripheral blood stem cell infusion on various patients. I have also treated pediatric solid malignancy during my tenure. BLK Super-Speciality Hospital, Delhi has a dedicated 24 bedded Bone marrow transplant unit which is the largest unit in India, 12 bedded day care unit and separate hematology ward. In last 10 year this BMT unit has helped to cure over 1000 patients of leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, Thalassemia, Sickle cell anemia, aplastic anemia, inherited bone marrow failure syndrome, pediatric solid malignancy & connective tissue disorder by doing autologous or allogeneic (complete match & haploidentical) hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. During my tenure, Hemato-Oncology & BMT unit has performed more than 400 stem cell transplants. I have also been involved in hospital CME meetings, Delhi hematology group CME meetings and nurse training programs for chemotherapy administration, PICC line insertion and oncology care.
Impact of ABO incompatibility on patient outcome in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
Conclusion: Our data of 123 patients who underwent allogeneic stem cell transplantation concluded that ABO incompatibility does not influence outcome of allogeneic HSCT in terms of neutrophil & platelet engraftment, development of acute GVHD, 100 day-overall survival & non-relapse mortality regardless of stem cell source. In ABO Major & bi-directional incompatible group with high pre-transplant IHA titers (> 1:32) had significant risk of developing PRCA.
